Film Program Initiatives

      • Aloha Performing Arts Company - "Independent Focus," features a series of current independent film screenings at the Aloha Theatre in KainaliuAloha Theatre in Kainaliu, Waimea.
      • Kahilu Theatre Foundation - "Makana Series," screenings of films by local filmmakers at the Kainaliu Theater in Waimea.
      • Friends of the Palace Theater - "Four Film Festivals," feature the Hawai‘i Film Hoike, International Film Festival, The Talking Circle Indigenous Film Festival and the Chinese Film Festival at the Palace Theater in Hilo.
      • Hawai‘i Community College - "Boot Camp in Film Production for Kids in Middle School Grades."
      • Lighting and Electric Training Class for Film and TV Technicians - This training class covers a wide variety of subjects for technicians working on high level professional film and television. Sponsored by IATSE Local 665 (Honolulu), and co-sponsored by The Big Island Film Office.
      • 4th Annual Big Island Film Festival - The "Talk Story" Film Festival. Fifty independent feature films and shorts shown over several days in mid May. Seminars for filmmakers, networking events and awards given in various categories. Presented by The Big Island Film Festival.
      • Screenplay in a Day Seminar - An all day seminar as part of The Big Island Film Festival. Screen writing pros from the mainland discussed various elements of writing good scripts for film and television.
      • "How Professionals Make Movies" - Professionals with Hollywood and industry experience talked about various aspects of making movies at the professional level, including development, financing, production management, locations management and producing. Sponsored and organized by The Big Island Film Office.
