Background
Communities are in a constant state of flux. The needs of citizens for information grow and change. What does not change, however, is that citizen's need information: information which is easily accessible, accurate and up-to-date. This information plays a critical role in helping everyone in our community achieve success - be it in school, on the job or at home. We are a society that depends on information.
This is a tremendous responsibility for the Information Resources Program, as it must be prepared to effectively and efficiently meet these ever-changing and always-growing needs for information resources. The Information Resources Program strives to organize and provide access to information and universal knowledge to fulfill the informational and educational needs of the citizens in the dynamic and changing communities of Hawai‘i County, which is comprised of many ethnic and economic backgrounds. Further, to recognize changes that occur in society and to adapt these changes to the delivery of people-oriented information services.
Program Goals
- To be responsive and alert to users' changing information needs.
- To collect and develop statistical data for decision-making, program development and policymaking.

To provide information resources that are easily accessible, relevant, reliable and up-to-date.

To provide information services to County departments, other governmental agencies, businesses, community groups and the general public.

To select, acquire, organize and maintain a collection of resource materials in support of County programs.
Program Focus
- Policy - Provide basic access to information and equal opportunities for learning for all citizens regardless of economic status.
- Plan - Provide information to its users' which is accurate, delivered quickly, appropriate to the users' needs and drawn from the broadest range of available sources, placing special emphasis on local and regional information sources.
- Implement - Provide information service that is of high quality, accurate and timely utilizing resource materials that are relevant and reflect the diversity of our society; remain alert to and respond to the changing needs in this dynamic community.
